Please send updates of address, phone, cars, email for 2004 directory. Speaking of membership information, it’s been a while since I listed new members, but Rover owners continue to contact RSTCA. And, don’t forget our Labor Day weekend get together at the Sunday car show during the Lime Rock vintage races to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rover car in 2004.

Chis Devlin in San Diego bought a P5B from Peter King in Massachusetts; he has been looking forward to a P5B restoration for a few years. Chris is going to store the new project car on the east coast until he finds out whether his job will be transferred east or not.

Glen Wilson of Wallingford, PA has completed his masters degree in education and his student teaching. To celebrate, he has bought a very nice 3500S to use as his daily driver and he has jumped back into Rovernet.

Pat Thompson of Cazenovia, NY has solved a steering shimmy on his 2000TC with a pair of new front tires. The alternator on his car was not charging the battery, so he thought a retrofit to a modern alternator might be the way to go. Before getting into all that, he studied the wiring diagram, checked all the wiring related to the alternator with a voltmeter and discovered a wire broken in an obsure place – no more charging problem.

Garrett Bourque of Jefferson, ME solved the brake problem on this 3500S that had been a mystery for a few years – he expects to put some miles on the car this year.

Phil Jodry of Hamden, NY writes:

The Velveteen Rover started life as 2 cars. A ‘69 SC automatic lived a difficult life in Queens, and spent a decade in Spring Valley, NY, unrestorable and with a broken differential. A ‘67 TC 4-speed tow car crashed, was partly stripped and completely buried under Rover hoods and fenders from about 1978 to about 1999, in Nyack, NY. An unlikely reconstruction was made when the 69 was stripped, the 67 was made into an automatic SC, and a number of adaptation parts were made. The 69's engine and tranny were hoisted in one piece, from a fire escape, when the landlord was away for the weekend. In 2001, some replacement parts , coming from England, were trapped and missing under the World Trade Center collapse, found and sent back to England. They're now with her. Velveteen Rover has done about 9000 smooth miles, since repair, and her body is great, except for the four hopeless fenders. They were ruined by bad bodywork. One rear door needs competent welding and all door edge seams are intact. Side windows will be treated to brand new heavy duty belt moldings, shortly. (Safelite T109) at a buck a foot. She has entirely separate brake pedals and systems for front and rear axles, with the pedals on the left. Clutch is rear axle. She's missing a few of the correct 67 lug nuts and a few girling brake parts should be replaced, but it's safe for a few years. The Velveteen Rover will be active sometime, this summer.

Rover Parts

Richard Dolansky of New Jersey emailed with this: Just dropping a line to let you and the members know that I have many Rover 2000 and 3500 parts for 1968 through 1970 models. The parts are all from my former collection of Rovers, and many may be hard to come by. Should there be some interest I would be happy to hear from you. The pricing is reasonable.
